It was about to get topped off with an eight story glass and steel addition.Toavoid tearing the church building down, design firmFinegold Alexander + Associates' plan was to build on top of it, retaining the entire structure including the bell tower.The plans called for adding a modern glass top andcreating 33 luxury condos.Located at 136 Shawmut Avenue in the South End, this residential buildingis one of many residential projects either new to the lower South End or under construction.The homes at The Lucas will range from one to threebedrooms, with finishes such as floor to ceiling windows with Back Bay and Downtown views, gas fireplaces, high ceilings, custom kitchens, and private decks.A fitness area, common courtyard, lounge, and pet spa are amongthe amenities.
